Football- General/Humour

Football's Seven Dwarfs

Bit of a joke post which fuses fairy tales and football.   The characteristics of the seven dwarf's featuring in the popular Disney film are very well known.  Here is their footballer equivalents!

-RONALDINHO-

"1. Happy- Ever smiling, jolly with a bubbly personality"

Ronaldinho was the first player thought of for this character.  He always played with a smile on his face and gave such unbridled joy to watch him.  He was a real entertainer with ridiculous skills and tricks.  His personality really shone through on the football pitch, such a sunny player.  Off the field of play, he is said to be full of life, great fun and very bubbly.  He has a real Brazilian spirit, it is just a shame we never seen more of him at the very top.

-GENNARO"RINO" GATTUSO-

"2. Grumpy- Vocal, stubborn and compassionate"

It was a real toss up between Gattuso and Roy Keane.  Keane equally embodies the persona of the dwarf Grumpy, famous for his dirty and aggressive style of play.  Off the pitch, even still he is just as prickly-heaven help journalists or whomever gets on his wrong side.  However, Rino Gattuso the brute of the AC Milan midfield for many seasons is a man with a very aggressive style of play.  Snarling and passionate, he often struggled to keep his discipline in check on the pitch.  Always serious and often losing his temper.  From his time at Rangers, Gattuso was known to be a bit of a grumpy git amongst his teammates.

ZINEDINE ZIDANE

"3. Bashful- Shy and humble"

The great Zizou is one of the best players to ever grace the game.  Surprising, given all he achieved in football and the status he has in the game that he remains a very shy individual.  Keen to avoid public speaking, he is very softly and quietly spoken.  Coaches from his early days have reflected on his shyness and that he is a man of few words and from what has been read throughout his career, that aspect of his personality hasn't changed.  Like bashful he seems to be a very humble person too, which is astonishing given the ego's most footballers posess.  Also he is a giant of the game and holds hero status in his native France and Madrid.

FABIO COENTRAO

"4. Sleepy- Weary, droopy-eyed and a little lazy"

He has very small eyes and is regularly seen yawning during a match.  Initially in his career he had problems with managing his stamina, he would put everything in at the start and not have much left for the latter stages of the game.  He has improved considerably since then.   The Real Madrid man often looks very tired indeed.  This is mostly due to his tiny eyes.  Rumours suggest that he is quite fond of the Real Madrid lifestyle so is probably not getting as many early nights as he should!  As far as the lazy aspect of the dwarf Sleepy's personality, he doesn't have that at all and really shone for Portugal in the summers Euro Championships.

GIANLUIGI BUFFON

"5. Dopey- Clumsy, silly and playful"

Gianluigi Buffon is a very familiar character in the game.  The Juventus and Italian number one has always struck me as being rather dopey looking due to his expressions.  There is no doubting his qualities as one of the finest keepers the game.  He is also one of my favourite players.  Something very likeable about him, he comes across well in interviews.  He speaks very quickly, sometimes too fast causing him to lose track or need to repeat.  On the pitch he is passionate and is regularly seen celebrating exuberantly with that slightly manic smile of his.  It is more his looks than anything else that fit in with the persona of the dwarf Dopey.  He is quite gangly and big limbed so often looks clumsy.  Off the pitch he's very popular amongst his teammates, a bit of a clown he admits himself who enjoys entertaining them, often at his own expense.  Funnily, his surname itself is not far off being buffoon!

SOCRATES

"6. Doc- Intelligent and wise, leader "

What better player to pick for this character than a player who was nicknamed O Doutor (The Doctor) himself.  The Brazilian playmaker, Socrates sadly passed away last year.  As a player the title of Doc is fitting enough, he was an intelligent player and maverick and was universally loved.  Like the character in the fairytale he exhibited outstanding leadership qualities.  However his intelligence was not restricted merely to the football field.  During his early years as a player he studied to become a doctor.  He then graduated from the Facildade de Medicina de Ribeirao Preto in Sao Paulo.  Renowned as an intellectual, he really was unique in his field in that respect- footballers certainly aren't known for their brains. He was also a keen writer, writing about an array of topics such as economics, politics, human rights and morality.  He stayed in touch with the game he loved airing his views as a pundit.

MARIO BALOTELLI

"7. Sneezy- A constant sneezer, sneezes often frustrate the other dwarfs"

This is a trickier one.  The mental and ever controversial Italian will suffice.  He came out with the excuse of being allergic to grass last season.  He likely suffers from hayfever, like the character from the Snow White tale.  Another aspect of this character is the reaction of those around him, the other dwarfs famously get frustrated by the continual sneezes.  Balotelli is rarely out of the news for some reason or another and is known to be a bit of troublemaker and unpopular with his teammates- most obviously in his time at Inter Milan.
